masters
We have one-step-removed control at best over our lives. In every person resides a memory of self, comprised of belief. Theses beliefs stratify into themes which I’ll call masters, because these self-elected collections of belief control our experience and choices.
Control extends only as far as your understanding of these self-elected masters goes. So what should we know?
They have allies
Masters team up with others when they are externally consistent in explanation. When we observe the world we do so through the eyes of our masters, through our belief. If a belief seconds another in explaining events they’ll support each other in future debates.
One person’s western karma is another’s fair deity. We believe what we see.
We are distinct
Masters may seem to be aspects of the self but are separate. I create the distinction because with all the systems within the healthy human, the external appearance is harmony unless you’re sick. Given that many of us despise our own masters (ask someone how they see their world), either we have unhealthy minds en-masse or masters are separate from the self.
Our relationship with food is similar in many ways to our relationship with masters. We need food for nourishment. Food is external and carried internally. We can only hold so much at once. The taste of food is not always indicative of the food’s character. Food can be fatal. We often have a choice about what we take in.
The term of engagement for masters is much longer than for food however. We often carry masters for days, weeks or years. It would make sense then that what we consume is important to us. The art of preparing beliefs is as old as the culinary arts and suffers the same abuse.
We’re easily fooled
In keeping with the food theme, we’re easily bought by imitations. Our sense of being is like our taste. We’re fooled by sweet things that make us feel good in the short term but have no lasting value. Every week it seems somebody new has found the secret to happiness and packaged the master into a book or seminar. The trouble with sweet things is they give you plenty of energy shortly after but are soon rejected by the same reflex that took them onboard.
For many “The Secret” was a promising set of beliefs. This master had many believing in their super-human power until they realized they their imagined faculties were imagined. The Secret was no secret recipe though, simply a science-flavored recipe for your every-decade manifest-destiny hot-cakes — guaranteed to sell.
Cook at home
So how can we tell what we’re taking in? The best method I’ve come across for healthy, lasting, no-crap-included mind meals is to make them yourself or cook with healthy chefs. Made-for-masses media is the cheap takeaway food of new belief and is best avoided, especially when you’re hungry.
Switch off the TV, read a book, meditate (sit and do nothing), write a blog, find some natural surrounds and take a hike. Share beliefs with friends and listen.
Be selective
I’m not saying accept nothing new. Our common masters hold societies in formation. All I suggest is that fostering good taste for the beliefs you take on has immediate and noticeable effects on personal metal health.
